Coronavirus Update: Public Masses

The Government has given permission for churches to re-open for public worship from 4th July. The Archbishops have issued a statement which can be read at the following link:

Archbishops’ letter on resumption of collective worship.

Along with most churches in our diocese, we will not be able to re-open by 4th July. Certain requirements need to be met and an inspection from a diocesan representative will need to take place before any decision is made.

St Marie’s will not be able to re-open until the building work has finished and a deep clean has taken place. The building work on the tower is progressing well and I will keep you updated as to a possible opening date.

St Joseph’s will be able to re-open once I have the go-ahead from the diocese and all the conditions set down by the government have been met. In order to pass the inspection, one of the requirements is that we will need to show we have enough volunteers to be stewards on the doors, both entry and exit, and cleaners to clean the church after every Mass. If you would like to volunteer, please contact me by phone or by email.

Please note that the Archbishops have reaffirmed that the obligation to attend Sunday Mass remains suspended.
