Father Alosza’s Homily

Following from the last post about Fr Alosza below you will find the text of the address that he gave on his recent visit. Our friendship and the wonderful and generous support that our parish gives Alosza is truly the work of Divine Providence. I often ask myself how I came to meet this young missionary priest when he hardly speaks English, his native language is Kazakhstani and his day to day working language is Russian. When he visits our parish he preaches in Polish and on a daily basis I communicate with him in Italian!!! It truly is the workings of Divine Grace.

The text of the address is given in Polish and English. I am grateful to those who have been able to translate it for us.

Boże Narodzenie, 2018

Drodzy Dobrodzieje naszej misji,

Christmas, 2018

Dear benefactors of our mission,
Praise be the Lord Jesus Christ!

Today I direct my words of acknowledgement and sincere gratitude, together with my best wishes for both Christmas and the New Year, to all those who feel united with us, and like us, feel responsible for the mission and work that we carry out—in far-off Kazakhstan—with the help of God.

May the feast of the Incarnation of our Lord arouse in our hearts the awareness of belonging to one great Family, that is God’s Church. As we profess every Sunday during the liturgy that we “believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church” may this now, let none of us lack a sense of closeness, warmth and affection not only for those who are near, on whom we can always count, but also for those who are physically far away, yet in spirit and in thought, in one’s heart and in one’s wishes, are close by. Let this truth about the Church and the awareness that we are one Family in the Church of Christ, enliven, guide and help us to together surmount the hardships of everyday life.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your regards, prayers and every donation made for the needs, living expenses and activities undertaken by our mission. And so I warmly invite you to share in the joy, that after many years of effort and endeavour, we have begun to build a parish house. This brings much happiness, and even more happiness comes from the knowledge that we are not alone in this, that there are people who are kind-hearted, willing and ready to help their brothers and sisters in faith.

Zdążyliśmy przed mrozami zalać fundamenty i położyć strop.

Before the frosts came, we managed to pour the foundations and lay the floor. There were many difficulties, ranging from the irresponsibility of workmen to those arising from the nature and location of our mission and church. To give an example: the distance from us to the nearest and bigger town is over 100 km – one way. So, the concrete mixers (of which altogether there were 30 trucks) had to travel this distance with their load, to supply the construction that had already begun. Similarly so, with all the other materials needed for this venture (both large and small), you have to traverse such distances. The problem is not only with the delivery of materials, but also with quality, and a lack of competence and reliability in workers.

The foundations are just the beginning… Much effort, worry, maybe even failure and pain is still ahead of us—but I trust in God’s goodness and entrust myself to the kindness of people with hearts that are responsive and willing to help. In my heart I carry the conviction that we will not be abandoned, because I believe that neither God nor people will leave us and that this house will come to be and will be of service to others.

A lot could be said and written about this, but I keep repeating one thing, that since there are so many difficulties, so many problems, then the work that we have embarked on, in building the parish house, is needed. We hope that in a few years’ time it will become the centre for our work with the youth, children and adults, who seek God, seek consolation and the meaning of their existence. Since this is the purpose of the construction, there have to be many difficulties, because—as experience shows—every good deed must often be paid for with suffering. Yet in all this I see how God Himself is calling for the work to be done and how He Himself intervenes with His Grace, protecting and helping us.

Aside from this, the entire roof of one of the filial chapels has been replaced with a new one, and the external thermal insulation and façade of the church has been done. Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to do the plastering, because the frosts and snows came. Winter…, wind…, the cold…, and that means, needing fuel again, buying coal again (last winter we bought nearly 90 tons of coal). Apart from this we still continue to provide extra food to the poor and abandoned children at one of the schools and we do many other good things, often risking our health and devoting our time and labour for others. I don’t write this to seek praise, but to show what our lives are like and what we do, as well as to be truthful with those who trust us. However, the truth–as we know–is not only concerned with what is difficult or unpleasant, but also with everything that is good and beautiful. In all this may God be glorified.

Nie było by to wszystko możliwe bez wiernej i życzliwej pomocy naszych Dobrodziejów. Moi Drodzy, Kochani i Życzliwi dla nas Ludzie tutaj z Parafii w Bury – Serdecznie Wam dziękuję. Doceniamy każdą pomoc, każdą życzliwość i każdą ofiarę, bo dzięki temu możemy dokonywać tych dzieł na chwałę Bożą i na pożytek ludzi.

All this would not be possible without the loyal and kind help of our benefactors. My dear, cherished and kind people of this parish in Bury – we sincerely thank you. We value every act of help, every kindness and every donation, because thanks to this we can carry out our work for the glory of God and the benefit of the people.

o. Alexey Mitsinskiy

May God bless us, may our Blessed Mother embrace us with Her affection, so that in this New Year–as for every day of our lives–we feel, that we are needed, that our lives have meaning and that God loves us with an indescribable love. For those benefactors of our mission who have died, may the Good Lord bestow the grace of eternal happiness in His Kingdom in the company of the saints.

Once again, we sincerely thank you.

With my prayers and blessings + for all that is good
Fr. Alosza Miciński
